OSC Policies and Procedures

KIDSKATE
Kidskate is the introductory level of the Canskate program. This is a 50 minute Learn-To-Skate program for pre-schoolers age 2 to 5 years. The sessions, led by professional coaches,mix fun and play on ice through games and creative exercises.

CANSKATE - Levels 1 TO 5
This is a 50 minute Learn-To-Skate program designed for children 4 and older. The basics of forward and backward skating, stopping, turning, jumping and spinning are taught by both Professional Coaches and trained program assistants. Skaters are grouped by ability and age, are evaluated regularly, and progress through the five stages at their own pace. Successful completion at each stage results in a badge.

SPECIAL BLADES
Special Blades is a new Recreational/ Instructional Learn-to-Skate and Figure Skating program designed for children age 5 or older who have special develpomental needs.

C.S. ELITE
This program provides an introduction to Test and Competitive figure skating and more advanced use of skate edges. Skaters must have completed Canskate level 5 to qualify for this session or have passed Canskate Level 3 with a private coach. Group lessons are provided on most sessions.Skaters are also given time to work on their own. A private coach is recommended.

STARSKATE
Skaters must have completed Canskate level 6 to qualify for this program. Skaters work on Dances, Skills and Freeskate. The program includes "Patch" time for turns and footwork and "Spins" time during which skaters are encouraged to edges, backward enteries, show flexibility and increase spin length. A private coach is required.

ADVANCED
Skaters must have passed all three Junior Bronze Tests (No age restriction) or any complete Senior Bronze Test and be 15 years of age as of December 31, 2007. A private coach is required for Advanced skaters.

ADVANCED LEISURE SKATE FOR STUDENTS/ADULTS
This is a 50 minute program designed for adults and students over the age of 16 with previous skating experience wishing to upgrade their skills. Skaters may hire a professional coach or attend the group lessons provided.

POWER SKATING AND SKILLS DEVELOPMENT (Canpower)
This is an 11 Week Program, for hockey and ringette players. The skaters progress through skills gradually that increase in complexity. Additional focus is placed on the aqusistion of efficient technique, speed, agility, technical aspects of stride and acceleration and skating with the puck/ring. Skaters perform these skills in a course-like pattern. Full equipment required including neck guard, stick and CSA approved hockey helmet.

ADULT SYNCHRONIZED SKATE
The club has two teams that skaters over the age of 20 can join, Glide and Edge Expressions. Previous skating experience is required. A team consists of 12 to 20 skaters on the ice at one time performing footwork and formations in unison to music. Tryouts are held annually. A professional coach is present at all practices.
