Our skaters have asked and we have answered! We are going back to the parade of the lights this year to start making memories!! Came out to help make great memories for your skater!! All we ask is to dress with the theme-
THE GRINCH FELT GREAT WHEN HE LEARNT TO SKATE WITH THE OSHAWA SKATING CLUB!
To dress in theme wear bright colours- add lights if you want- fun hats- they can be Christmas themed if you celebrate Christmas or winter themed if you don’t. Make sure you dress warm too.
Younger skaters will sit on the float- so bring blankets and warmer clothing because sitting is really cold
Our StarSkaters/Program assistants will walk and give out candy canes- so it’s not quite as cold but dress in layers that let your skin breath so you don’t have sweat cooling on your skin.
Use your imagination- Have fun, dress in bright fun colours- we do have dresses we can pull over clothing if you do need them. Please email Melissa at events@oshawaskating.com
Add light up accessories if you can- the dollar store has stuff, we also have some light up shoe laces that can be used as bracelets or necklaces if need be.
The parade is on Saturday, November 21st, 2027 at 6:30pm- Our main meeting place will be the TD Bank parking lot on the corner of King and Stevenson. We will walk up from there to the float- We do not have a set place where our float will be until we park on the day of the event. We will send out an email to participates with personal contact information of organizing members so if you need it you can contact one of them for help- It seems a bit chaotic but we have done this a bunch of times we have you, and everything always goes great and the kids have a blast. Pick up location will be announced later-we are still working on the best location due to the knew route.
Set up- will be the morning of the parade, we can always use volunteers, if you’d like to help set up please sign up on the sign up sheet and an email will go out later to give you the location- Please know the location is not a public area so we don’t publish it publicly.
Teardown- Happens quickly right after. We have volunteers that watch the kids and supply treats and hot chocolate to them while the adults quickly tear down the float. Please be aware due to a change in the route from when we use to participate we are still working on the logistics of the teardown and pick up.
We hope you’ll all participate in our fun parade to help your skater make memories- Please be aware ONLY people registered with Skate Canada can ride the float- Parents are welcome to walk behind and will be covered by insurance that way, but like at the rink all on ice people need to be registered with Skate Canada, anyone on the float needs to be registered with Skate Canada.
